Actel Database Compatibility
The actel design databases have gone through a number of formats, starting with a
directory of files, moving to the Objectstore database (.adb), and now to the Actel
internal database format (.adb also). Additionally, files could be generated on
either PC's (DOS, Win 3.1, Win '95 and Win NT) or various flavors of UNIX. This
application note will document database compatibility. If you have a case that isn't
covered here, just let us know at maplug@pop700.gsfc.nasa.gov.

- All versions of ALS and Designer 1.0, 1.1, etc. - used ASCII files which were
compatible across platforms as long as you used the DOS2UNIX or UNIX2DOS conversion
commands. Sometimes the CONVERT utility is needed.
- Designer 3.0 - first version to use Objectstore. Databases not compatible across
UNIX and PC platforms.
- Designer 3.1 - Win95 and workstation versions used an updated version of
Objectstore, which was compatible across UNIX and PC platforms, without using the
conversion commands. The Win 3.1 version used Designer 3.0 version of Objectstore, so this
was not compatible across platforms.
- Designer 3.1.1 and above - upwardly compatible across versions and compatible
across platforms without using the conversion commands.
