Electronic versions of the complete manuscript is the preferred submission medium, however, because of the short time frame, we will accept submission of the presentation with a short narrative for each slide. The narrative will permit readers to follow the presentation.
Please carefully review and follow the steps below to ensure successful submission and publication of your paper.
1. It is entirely your (the author's) responsibility to ensure that your paper is cleared through all channels (including both sponsor and corporate) for publication in an unclassified international journal with potentially unlimited readership.
2. Please send one clear hardcopy of your paper with a cover letter to me (NO FAXes PLEASE) so that I receive them on or before September 25, 1998. If you mail your paper, please check with the Editor to ensure that the paper was received. My mailing address is:
US Mail Address
Richard B. Katz
NASA/GSFC
Greenbelt, MD 20771
Alternatively, you may wish to hand-carry your paper to the Military and Aerospace Applications of Programmable Devices and Technologies conference in Greenbelt, Maryland.
3. Electronic submissions by September 25, 1998 are also required with Microsoft Word and/or Power Point formats strongly recommended. These should be submitted to our FTP site. File names should be preceeded with your presentation number (i.e., A1fpgas.doc). Please remember to upload your file in binary mode.
FTP: knet-i.gsfc.nasa.gov
UserID: mapld
Password: nasagsfc
The directory is write only; you will not be able to do a directory listing, change directories, or read back what you wrote. Please send an email to martha.obryan@gsfc.nasa.gov when a file is uploaded along with the file name and paper number.
4. Along with your paper, please include a cover letter in which you provide the a) name, b) standard mailing address, c) express mail address, d) e-mail address, and e) fax number. Also please provide a second number (secretary, co-author, or colleague) with whom we may leave a message in case you are not available. This cover letter provides the vital communication link between you and the editor. Please note if there is a time after the conference when you will be on extended absence for personal or business travel.
5. Your paper must be prepared in camera-ready, two-column form following the instructions on formatting. Please number all pages and figures on the final copy. Also, please be sure to include all necessary references, figure captions, etc. Finally, please proofread the paper carefully. Valuable time is lost on many papers because of missing or illegible figures, poor grammar, hasty organization, and/or typographical errors.
6. The formatting requirements attached will be strictly enforced, especially in the specific areas of margins, references and figure formatting. These are standard formats. Papers that do not follow proper formatting will need to be revised before accepted for publication in the Proceedings. Downloadable formatting instructions and templates for common desktop publishing packages may be obtained from the web site at http://rk.gsfc.nasa.gov/. We wish to make the hardcopy versions readable when bound into the proceedings. Please pay attention to charts and graphs as the hardcopy version of the proceedings will be published in black and white. Use of color is fine, and will be used in the CD-ROM version, but use labels and symbols on charts as required.
7. The final manuscript should be no longer than 12 pages to keep the overall size of the October issue manageable. This point is negotiable, but the burden is on the author to justify additional length. Approval is solely at the discretion of the editor, and must be obtained in advance of final copy submission.
8. For submissions in the presentation plus narrative format, please provide a Power Point file containing slides and narrative (set view to Notes Page to add slide narrative). Another alternative would be to submit a separate word document containing slide narrative along with the Power Point file and we will merge them for you.
