Instructions for Presentations

1998 Military and Aerospace Applications of

Programmable Devices and Technologies Conference

Dear MAPLD presenter:

Congratulations on having your paper accepted for presentation at the 1998 Military and Aerospace Applications of Programmable Devices and Technologies conference. Below are instructions for oral and poster presentations. Please address any questions to the Production Editor, Martha O’Bryan, at martha.obryan@gsfc.nasa.gov or (301) 286-1412.

ORAL PRESENTATIONS

We will hold the oral sessions in the Bldg. 8 conference room, which is a large facility. There will be a choice of 35 mm slides, view graphs, or a PC-based Power Point presentation. If you choose to present using Power Point you must FTP your final version of the presentation by Friday, September 4, 1998 and you must have either 35 mm slides or viewgraphs as back-up. VHS and NTSC formats can be supported but will require a special request.

35 mm Slides

The slides will be shown by a projectionist, who will be located in the control booth in back of, and elevated above, the conference facility. Two screens and projectors are available.

Your slides should be given to the projectionist in a carousel (speaker provided). The carousel should have a maximum capability of 80 slides to be compatible with the projection equipment. Please mark your slides with your name and talk number. Lastly, a slide preview facility is available in the control booth to ensure that they are inserted correctly; please use this service to avoid problems during your talk.

Viewgraphs

Two viewgraph machines are available for your presentation. The viewgraphs should be attached to handling frames. It is strongly recommended that you make provisions for someone from your organization or a colleague to turn the slides, so as not to distract from your presentation. If you are alone and need assistance, please request support by September 4, 1998, and an assistant will be assigned.

PC-based Power Point Presentations

A PC, running Office 97, will be available for presentations. It is strongly recommended that you make provisions for someone from your organization or a colleague to operate the computer, so as not to distract from your presentation. If you are alone from your organization and need assistance, please request support by September 4, 1998, and an assistant will be assigned.

Your presentation must be uploaded onto our computer by Friday, September 4, 1998 (see FTP address below). File names should be prefixed ‘PP" followed by your assigned presentation number (i.e., PPA1fpgas.ppt).  Please remember to upload your file in ‘binary mode.’ The power point files will be checked for compatibility and loaded onto our machine prior to the conference. There will be no substitution of files at the conference. You are required to make either 35 mm slides or viewgraphs to be used as back-up. There are a lot of presenters and we do not want to spend time working compatibility issues during the conference.

MAPLD FTP SITE

FTP: knet-i.gsfc.nasa.gov
UserID: mapld
Password: nasagsfc

The directory is write only; you will not be able to do a directory listing, change directories, or read back what you wrote. Please send an email to martha.obryan@gsfc.nasa.gov when a file is uploaded along with the file name and paper number. You will receive a confirmation that the file was successfully uploaded.

POSTER PRESENTATIONS

It is strongly recommended that you setup your poster Monday, September 14, in the Building 28 atrium before the start of the conference.  This will minimize disruptions to the other presentations and greatly simply the logistics.  Once your poster is set up in Building 28, conference personnel will handle the transportation of your poster between the atrium and Building 8.

The space available for the poster on a panel is 5 feet wide by 4 feet high.  Each presenter is allocated one panel; if a second panel is needed, or if any other accomodations are required, please contact Martha O'Bryan, the Poster Chairperson.  Your panel will be identified for you with your presentation number and name.  Authors should provide a title using letters large enough to be legible at ~10 feet, displayed at the top of the mounting board, containing the authors' names and affiliations. Your abstract with lettering readable from ~6 feet should be prominently displayed near the top of the mounting board.  Velcro, tacks, pushpins, and other items to mount your presentation will be available for use in the atrium.

Posters for MAPLD '98 are grouped into two groups: PABx and PCDx and your poster has been given a unique number.  Please use that in all correspondence.  The PABx posters will be grouped with Sessions A and B while the PCDx posters will be grouped with Sessions C and D.  This will give the conference continuity.  On Tuesday, September 15th, the PABx posters will be in Bldg. 8 for discussions during two 45 minute periods dedicated to posters for Applications and Devices, Elements, and Technologies..   On Wednesday, September 16th, the PCDx posters will be in Bldg. 8 for discussions during two 45 minute periods dedicated to posters for Radiation Environments and Effects and Adaptive Computing.  Additionally, their will be a full poster session along with the industrial exhibit in the Building 28 atrium on Tuesday the 16th.  This program is designed to give your work maximum exposure and to give conference attendees ample time to have in depth discussions with you.
